1) Washington Update

The Center for Freedom and Prosperity has been very active on Capitol Hill this week.  Since we started the Center in October, we have met with more than 100 members of Congress and staff and educated them on the misguided OECD attack on tax competition.  Our efforts are starting to show results with more than a dozen letters from Congressional leaders having been sent to the Treasury Department.  Not one of the offices we have spoken with supports the OECD's project. They understand that it is an initiative of high-tax nations to cut into the US's economic and competitive advantage. Unfortunately, President Clinton's Administration supported this effort and bureaucratic support for the project still exists at the Treasury Department.  In the next few weeks we expect to hear many more lawmakers from both the right and left of the political spectrum speaking out against the OECD's attack on low-tax countries.

CFP will be going on the road again in the next few weeks.  We plan on trips to Europe and the Caribbean. Dan Mitchell of the Heritage Foundation will be in Switzerland next Thursday and Friday and Brussels on Monday, April 2. If anyone would like to speak with him or attend his speeches, please let me know.
